In fact, Zion has some of the most spectacular trails in the National Park System. Unlike many other parks in the American Southwest, where visitors look down from the rim of a canyon, visitors to Zion walk on the canyon floor and look up. In addition to the magnificent monoliths and cliffs, the park is known for its desert landscape of sandstone canyons, mesas, and high plateaus.

United States of America

The United States of America is a vast country in North America. It borders on Canada to the north and Mexico to the south, and has a land area of about 9.6 million km2 (about half the size of Russia and about the same size as China). It also has the world's third-largest population, with more than 320 million people. It includes densely populated cities with sprawling suburbs and vast uninhabited areas of natural beauty. Representing the world's single largest economy with its history of mass immigration dating from the 17th century, it is a "melting pot" of cultures from around the world.

What is it like to live around Colorado?

The Pikes Peak cog railway adventure was fun despite getting stuck in the snow and not reaching the summit. It was also interesting to learn that we can see Kansas and New Mexico from Pikes Peak, sometimes even Utah and Arizona. Unca Don and Patsy Rose are like family to me, which makes Colorado my

Pikes Peak was rail impossible in the snow

Back in school, we learnt that temperature drops 6°C every 1,000m and a metre is about three feet. Manitou Springs is at an elevation of 6,412ft and Pike Peak's elevation is 14,110ft – that's 7,698ft more. I did some rough calculations in my head 7,500 / 3 = 2,500m. 2.5 x 6°C = 15°C drop

Where to eat an honest breakfast in San Francisco

Breakfast is the most important meal of the day and in San Francisco the turnover of restaurants is pretty depressing. Luckily there are several long running establishments scattered around the city where you can always depend on for a good meal – and for good reason! Several of the choices here are recognised in the

Canada

Canada is the world's second largest country by area, only behind Russia. Known as the Great White North, Canada is renowned for its vast, untouched landscape, and its multicultural heritage. While geographically mostly in Asia, the bulk of Russia's population is concentrated in the European part and, culturally, Russia is unmistakably European. Much of the Asian part, however, has more in common with Kazakhstan, Mongolia or Northeast China than with Eastern Europe. It boasts a rich history and culture.
